FotoSketcher 3.50 for Windows official release

Hi all,

If you haven't already downloaded the latest version of FotoSketcher, you can do so here: https://fotosketcher.com/download-fotosketcher/

The main new features are:
- A new Painting 4 effect, which uses a brand new brushstroke placement algorithm. Custom brushes can be used (transparent black & white .png images). I suggest you check out the very thorough tutorial by power user Steven Friedman here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Meexejr0koU (thanks, Steven!)
- Some minor bug fixes and speed enhancements
- A transparency slider for the text tool, which allows to add subtle signatures or watermarks

Here is an example of the new Painting 4 effect (photo taken a few years back in the beautiful region of Tuscany):

A note to Mac users: I have been unable to get FotoSketcher 3.50 to run successfully using WineHQ, so for the time being, please continue using version 3.40. I'm working on finding a solution.

I hope playing with FotoSketcher will help you pass the time during the lockdown. Enjoy and stay safe!

All the best,

David

A question: I can load custom brushes without problem in Paint 7 and Paint 10, but not in Painting 4. I've tried with the same .png files in all three, but I cannot get Painting 4 to accept the brushes. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks again.

Hi Mark,
In Painting 4, the .png file for the custom brush has to be black on a transparent background. This is slightly different to the requirements for Painting 7 and 10. If you still can't import your .png file, don't hesitate to send it to me by email (contact at fotosketcher.com) and I'll look into it.

For some brushes that MIGHT be suitable (I haven't tested them yet)

Hi Casey,

Thanks. I've just tested a couple and they seem to work fine :)

I do notice that the brushes MUST be black on transparent - a black brush with greyscale edges (fade to transparent) goes onto the picture as a brush with a black outline (where the xx% transparency is)

This is actually pretty interesting as it make the whole picture look like it's painted with 3D pasted on cut-outs of the image.... but you'd not want it all the time, heh!
