I've long wanted to be able to export in vector format (SVG).
So here it is, a new Vectorize effect is arriving soon, in the Stylize category, with FotoSketcher Studio 4.60 beta 1.
Vectorize analyses a photo and rebuilds it as a set of clean colour shapes instead of pixels. The usual sliders will let you control how much detail survives the conversion, from a faithful poster-style rendering down to a bold, minimalist composition made of just a handful of shapes.
A few things you can do with it
- Bold poster and wall art. Flat colour areas hold up beautifully when printed large, and the graphic look suits portraits, pets and landscapes alike.
- T-shirts, stickers and mugs. Print shops love designs with a limited number of solid colours - Vectorize gets you there in one click.
- Logos and simple illustrations. Turn a photograph of an object, a building or a silhouette into a clean graphic mark.
- Colouring pages. Push the detail sliders down and you get well-defined regions that are easy to outline and fill in.
- A starting point for other effects. Vectorize combines nicely with the existing Stylize effects when you want an even more graphic result.

Hi, David! I'm really excited about this feature and I can't wait to test it. Do you know a programme called VTracer? It also turns images into vector files. It used to be a web app, but it's turning into a proper programme now. Anyway, exciting times for those who enjoy playing with images and vector files. Thanks!
Thank you, David! The beta with vectorization should be available this week ;) Just ironing out the latest details (flattening the svg after using the manual brush for instance, to avoid having lots of patches stacked on top of each other).
